An Indigenous curriculum that connects students to their cultural background and course content and includes Indigenous examples increases student engagement. However, the indigenous curriculum only scratches the surface. Using indigenous pedagogy for instruction provides all students with a richer, deeper learning experience. These teaching strategies create a positive learning environment and encourage students to share their histories related to the course content. This talk will focus on Indigenous pedagogy in secondary science courses, but the strategies can be applied in any content area and grade level.
